The head of the organization behind Montreal&#;s Homosexual pride festival says the city&#;s pride parade will go on as planned Sunday after its abrupt cancellation last year.

The edition of the parade was cancelled just hours before it was supposed to begin in downtown Montreal.

An independent report later found the incident was due to a misunderstanding among Montreal Pride festival personnel after they discovered 96 of the volunteers needed to work security for the parade were never recruited.

The report identified systemic communications and governance issues within the festival organization and recommended 13 reforms to address them.

Montreal Pride Parade draws tape crowd after abrupt cancellation of event

There was a festive mood across downtown Montreal on Sunday as the city&#;s Pride parade drew a record number of participants one year after the event was abruptly cancelled.

Simon Gamache, head of celebration organizer Pride Montreal, said around 15, people participated in the parade, a write down for the event.

&#;Why are we here today? First of all, it&#;s because we&#;re proud of who we are and we want to show that we&#;re proud of who we are,&#; Gamache said in a speech ahead of the parade. &#;As well, it&#;s because we want to commemorate the struggles and the victories of the past, but above all, it&#;s because there are still too many injustices towards the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, here and elsewhere.&#;
